Based out of the LA Area. I am a Contemporary Instrumental pianist/composer. I have been told that my music sounds like Billy Joel meeting David Lanz. I compose uplifting, epic PianoScapes for the Spirit. From my friend and producer Will Ackerman - "Kori's music has evolved in its own complexity and richness over the years, but the strength of her artist voice is powerful and singular to unify all of her work as purely her own."
A musician's path to her/his muse is sometimes an easy one. Other times, it is filled with potential pitfalls or unexpected obstacles. Kori Linae Carothers faced just that when, during a kindergarten health screening at the age of 5, it was discovered she was deaf in her left ear. Her young peers found out and the teasing began. In addition, throughout elementary and high school, Kori was constantly told she would never become a musician. Undeterred, she kept learning and practicing, never surrendering her dream. Despite these discouragements, Carothers was passionate about her calling and now, years later, she is an acclaimed pianist and keyboard player with four albums to her credit. Clearly, she is an example of a person following her muse with courage, humor, and determination. - Bill Binkelman

fire in the rainstorm
Fire in the Rainstorm - is a collection of my personal stories told by solo piano soundscapes. In April of 2014, I went again to Imaginary Road Studios to work with my friend and producer Will Ackerman and a VERY talented engineer Tom Eaton. These two men are an amazing combination of knowledge, dedication to music production and BOTH are extremely talented. With the help of Crowd Funding and some super amazing family, friends and fans - this album was possible.
This is my first solo piano album! The album is nominated for a ZMR Award for Best Piano Album - Solo for 2015. Did you know that whenever you purchase "Fire in the Rainstorm" you are helping my friends at Hearing Health Foundation. I donate a percentage of the proceeds from the sales!

This page is for un-released tracks that I have recorded in the past.
"It Was A Day Like No Other" was recorded at Prairie Sun Recording Studios in Cotati, California. It is the precursor to the solo piano version: "A Day Like No Other" on my album Fire in the Rainstorm. This was engineered by Corin Nelsen. This was in my music vault waiting to be released! I finally took the track to Tom Eaton at Imaginary Road Studios. He mixed and mastered the track.
My good friend Lawrence Blatt plays guitar on this version. It is absolutely gorgeous.

I live with hearing loss in my left ear. We found out when I was 5 that I had over 90% hearing loss. I basically have no hearing in my left ear. I was told when I was younger that I would never make it as a musician.. and yet I stand proudly and grateful that I have music in my life. Never tell me I cannot do anything, because baby - I will and prove to the world I can and will conquer!
Throughout my life I have talked with many people that have hearing loss. I was not sure if there were organizations out there that were working to find a cure for hearing loss as well as promote hearing health, until now. One day I decided to research the internet to find such a group and found Hearing Health Foundation. I was so impressed with their mission statement: Hearing Health Foundation's mission is to prevent and cure hearing loss through groundbreaking research. I am proud to say that a percentage of "Fire in the Rainstorm's" sales go to Hearing Health Foundation to help with their mission by preventing and curing hearing loss with their fine research!
I was recently diagnosed in having Spasmodic Dysphonia - which is a vocal disorder. Each day is different from the next. I really took for granted being able to speak. Since I was diagnosed with Spasmodic Dysphonia, I've gone through various stages in my psyche. I was angry at first, then I was extremely depressed, and finally accepted that I yes, I have this. I am so grateful for the medical technology nowadays so that I can receive treatment.
Oh? What IS it? From the National Spasmodic Dysphonia Website: It is a neurological condition that involves "spasms" of the vocal cords causing interruptions in speech and affecting the voice quality. SD can cause the voice to break up or cause a strained or strangled quality.
The bottom line is, I won't allow this to take away my happiness. I deal with it on a daily basis. Is there a cure? No. Is there treatment? Yes!! I receive botox injections into my vocal cords to give me the ability to speak without the spasms. Even though this is annoying, I will stay the course and do my best at what I do, and that is composing, recording music and releasing music.
PEACE IN MUSIC

I am working on new music. At my concert in January I unveiled a song that I wrote for my daughter Jane. Fortunately for us, SOKA University took video of the performances, so as soon as I get that video you KNOW its going here! Also, I went to NYC to participate in a research program for Spasmodic Dysphonia. I was their "guinea pig"! I did have a GREAT time in spite of the scary MRI. VERY noisy!
Here is a photo from my home studio! Getting ready to shoot a session!
